Auburn Results
Great job this weekend at Auburn. The Marching Band did a great job performing our show. Unfortunately we were pitted against many schools larger than us with more staffing, etc. The kids did a great job and were excited about the performance.
The participation plaque is in the HS Office next to our other trophies.

Tenino Marching Experience
On Friday Evening the Tenino Band Presented it's first annual TENINO MARCHING EXPERIENCE. The 7th and 8th graders from Tenino Middle School participated in the drills/dancing/music and performed for the halftime show of the Tenino vs. Montesano game.
There were around 100 students in attendance and the event was a great success. Students performed "On Tenino" and "Evil Ways".
A special thanks goes out to the Middle School Parents for giving their students rides to and from the game (because middle school kids cant drive!) and to the High School Marching Band, who did a great job working with the middle schoolers and teaching them the dances/how to march.
Stay tuned for more middle school/high school events in the near future!

Band Camp Information
Band Camp 2010
July 21-23
Oregon Trail Days Parade July 24th
$30.00
Dear THS/TMS Band Members and Parents:
With the upcoming summer months I know it is easy to forget about school and band, but I want to make sure you were up to date and informed about band camp and what exactly is going on this year.
This year is a change from our usual tradition of going away for camp, but we are in the process of saving money for our families in a hope for our trip to California in the Spring.
Camp will be at Tenino High School this year.
Camp will run from 9am to 5pm. Students will have the opportunity to learn marching techniques, have the opportunity to socialize with band members, rehearse some music, and have some fun in the sun.
The cost covers clinicians and lunch during the three days of camp. On Saturday we will be marching in the Tenino Oregon Trail Days Parade down Sussex Ave.
We are keeping with tradition in allowing all high school students, in addition to those going into the eighth grade, to participate in band camp. We enjoy the opportunity for the younger students to get marching experience and have a chance to enjoy the many social aspects of band. All 8th graders are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to participate.
FYI – We are also very close in our attempts to raise funds for new uniforms for the band at the HS. If you have any ideas or would like to get more involved with the Tenino Band Boosters email t90bandboosters@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you at 9am on July 21st!

Jazz Band - Kamiak, Bobby Shew
Jazz band traveled in the District Suburbans on Saturday the 2oth to Mukilteo for the Kamiak Invitational Jazz Festival.
Hal Sherman and the Bellevue College big band performed in addition to trumpet legend bobby shew.
He led the trumpet clinics. Here is some of his bio:
Born In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bobby Shew began playing the guitar at the age of eight and switched to the trumpet at ten. By the time he was thirteen he was playing at local dances with a number of bands and by fifteen had put together his own group to play at dances, occasional concerts and in jazz coffee houses. He spent most of his high school days playing as many as six nights a week in a dinner club, giving him an early start to his professional career.
he joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Sam Donahue, which, among other things, gave him the chance to perform quite a bit with trumpet legend Charlie Shavers. After his stint with Tommy Dorsey, Bobby was asked to play with Woody Herman's band upon Bill Chase's recommendation.
Many other similar situations followed and Bobby played lead trumpet for a number of pop stars. This brought Bobby to live in Las Vegas where he became prominent in various hotels and casinos. By this time Bobby was widely known for his strong lead playing rather than as a jazz soloist. So late in 1972 he decided to make a move to the Los Angeles area in order to get reinvolved in developing as a jazz player.
Once in Los Angeles, Bobby quickly found what he was looking for, and in the years to come he spent time with the groups of Art Pepper, Bud Shank, Horace Silver Quintet, and Frank Strazzeri-Sam Most, as well as numerous big bands such as Bill Holman, Louie Bellson, Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin, Oliver Nelson, Bill Berry, Nat Pierce-Frank Capp Juggernaut, Ed Shaughnessy, Terry Gibbs, Benny Goodman, Maynard Ferguson, Neal Hefti, Don Menza, and Bob Florence.
In addition to being a sideman, Bobby also became a leader around this time, recording many of his own albums. Several of these received very high accolades from critics and high placement on the airplay charts. One of his albums, 'Outstanding In His Field' was nominated for a Grammy in 1980, while, 'Heavy Company' was awarded the Jazz Album Of The Year in 1983.
During this time Bobby also found a great deal of studio work, including TV shows like 'Hawaii 5-O', 'Streets Of San Francisco', 'Bob Newhart', 'Mary Tyler Moore', 'Midnight Specials', 'Don Kirschner Rock Concert', 'Happy Days', 'Laverne And Shirley', and 'Eight Is Enough.' His work on soundtracks includes 'Grease I and II', 'Rocky I and II', 'Six-Pack', 'The Muppet Movie', 'The Drivers', and 'Taxi'.
The jazz band did a great job and are continuing to learn about jazz music!
